She was busy answering phone lines at the front desk of the YMCA when she noticed a tall, handsome man walk through the front doors. Tonya’s coworker greeted the man and signed him up for a membership. While Matt was focused on filling out the paperwork, Tonya took the opportunity to whisper to her coworker how good looking she thought Matt was. After signing the young man up, Tonya’s coworker said she had something to do, so Tonya would be the one giving Matt his tour of the facility. According to the couple, they “made their way around, making jokes and smiling throughout, and that was it. The tour was over.” They never seemed to cross paths again.
A month later, in November 2009, Tonya was scrolling through someone’s list of friends on Facebook. The profile of the cute guy from the YMCA had caught her eye but after peeking at it, she noticed that Matt’s profile was mostly private; since they seemed to hit it off during his tour of the Y, however, she decided to take a chance and click “Add Friend”. A day later, after he accepted her friend request, Tonya and Matt talked on Facebook chat for 2 hours. Their conversation continued the next day when Matt asked Tonya out for dinner. Two days later, they went out on their very first date and have since spent every remaining day together!
Tonya and her bridesmaids met at Hair’s Fashion salon in Green Bay to have their hair and makeup done. Tonya’s personal hair and makeup artists for the day were the talented Angela Blohowiak and Shelby Lundin. Even after the humidity and rising temps, Tonya made a comment at the end of the day how flawless her hair and makeup stayed– and she’s right, she looked gorgeous all night!
Notice the cute tattoo above? Next, Tonya applies a fresh coat of lipstick while her father watches on & waits to spend the last few minutes before the ceremony with her.
Meanwhile, Matt and his groomsmen get ready in the groom’s suite.
The ceremony took place at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in De Pere, WI. With large windows and tons of natural light, Our Lady of Lourdes provided a beautiful ceremony space for their vows.
The way these two looked at each other was so beautiful and refreshing :)
It was forecasted to be the hottest day of the year so far, and a chance of rain was in the forecast, but after a cleansing shower in the morning, the sun came out before the ceremony even started. Since the couple had a nautical themed wedding, we headed over Saint Norbert’s Campus to take photos by the lake.
They make a portrait session in 93 degree weather look easy, don’t they? :)
Below are my two favorite photos from the wedding day! :)
The reception took place at the Swan Club at Legends of De Pere. A blue UV lemonade fountain kept guests from getting thirsty, and cupcakes topped with anchor embossed wafers kept their sweet tooths under control.
In his free time, Matt enjoys building a 10 foot wooden boat. In place of a guest book, guests were able to sign wooden paddles. In addition, there was a station to write a “message in a bottle” for the bride and groom– this was a place for guests to leave advice for a lifetime of smooth sailing.
Guests were dressed to the nines, even one of the youngest in attendance…
After the first dances were completed, Matt’s mother gifted Tonya with a daughter’s ring; this is a tradition that Matt’s mother Deb has carried on with her daughter, her daughter in law, and now Tonya. Isn’t that precious?!
Shaun Shouldeen from DJ S2 Entertainment mixed music and kept the dance floor hoppin’ all night!
Tonya and Matt, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special day. The two of you are truly wonderful people and I pray that God continues to bless you both.
